The World's Increased Iniquity is an Integral Part of Its Punishment

By Chris McCann

As we see the great increase in iniquity in all the nations of the world and in practically all areas of life----we should recognize that in the Bible the same word translated as ‘iniquity’ is also translated as ‘punishment’:

Genesis 15: 16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity (#5771) of the Amorites is not yet full.

The same word ‘iniquity’ is translated several times as ‘punishment’:

Genesis 4:13 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment (#5771) is greater than I can bear.

This means that the Bible equates iniquity with punishment. So, as we see iniquity abound in the world today, at a time that the Bible teaches is Judgment Day for the world---we can understand that the tremendous increase in sin we see all around is a form of the punishment, or wrath of God upon the inhabitants of the earth.

In other words, the incredible depths of the ugly sin we see everywhere in the world, is not just an evidence or sign of the wrath of God---but it is the wrath of God itself.
