Choose You This Day – Whom Ye Will Serve (that is whichever false gospel you prefer)

Joshua 24:14Joshua 24:15

Joshua 24:14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Many free will preachers like to reference the Scripture above as a proof text for accepting Christ. See, it says, "choose you this day whom ye will serve". There it is, they say, God presenting Israel with a choice to serve Him. Just like we are presenting a choice to you today to accept and serve Christ.

The only problem is that they have not read Joshua 24:15 carefully. A closer reading shows that the choice being presented is for those who view it as evil to serve the LORD. I'll quote it again:

Joshua 24:15 "... if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD,..."

If serving Jehovah is as an evil thing to you – then God gives them a choice between serving one set of false gods on the other side of the flood; or to serve the false gods of the Amorites. Those are the only options presented:

Joshua 24:15 "choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell:"

So yes, it can be said that people are free to choose – which lie or false gospel they wish to follow. Choose you if you will serve the idols of the Catholics; or the idols of the charismatics; or the idols of any other church (at this time since God has abandoned all churches)? You have free will regarding which false gospel or religion will lead you to your destruction.

But as far as Joshua (type of Christ), and his house (all of God's elect children), we will serve the LORD.
