Possible Time Line for Jonah's Trip to Nineveh
2 Kings 14:23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.
24 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
25 He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath-hepher.
Based on the information we're given in this passage concerning the two kings-the date of 781 BC stands out. The 15th year of Amaziah king of Judah was the year 781 BC. And that was the year that Jeroboam the son of Joash began to reign as sole ruler over Israel in the north (he had been in a coregency with his father up until that year).
Interestingly, there seems to be a time path from the date of 781 BC to the year 1994 AD. Now since Jonah the prophet's name, outside the book of Jonah, is only found once in the verse above, could God be giving us a timeline for Jonah and his missionary work in Nineveh?
The significance of 1994 may relate to that. As we know the Lord commanded Jonah to preach a timeline of 40 days along with a message of judgment.
And it so happens that 1994 to 2033 is 40 inclusive years. The name Jonah also means dove and therefore spiritually ties in with the Holy Spirit. The Lord sending Jonah (the dove) a 2nd time to Nineveh most assuredly points to God stretching forth His hand a 2nd time to recover the remnant of His people. This God did when He sent for the Holy Spirit a 2nd time in the year 1994.
The time path is: 781 BC to 1994 AD = 2,755
2,755 = 5 x 5 x 3 x 37
#5 represents atonement (judgment) doubled = established by God/soon to come to pass
#3 represents the purpose of God
#37 represents judgment. 370 days on the ark (10 x 37)
Spiritual interpretation: It is the purpose (#3) of God that He will send forth the Holy Spirit a 2nd time to save (#5 atone for) the sins of a great multitude of His people (many saved in Nineveh are the greatest number saved anywhere in the O.T.). and to pronounce (yet 40 days and Nineveh will be destroyed) the final judgment (#37) for this world.
