"So much deception online. Hell is the Lake of fire where those who are in it are tormented forever!"

EBF reply:

The idea of a sinner being eternally tormented (consciously suffering forever) is unbiblical.

God lays down the law for judges in their sentencing of evil doers to punishment. He says they can only give 40 stripes – no more. This is a law indicating limited punishment of the evil doer. You can read it in Deuteronomy 25:1-3.

Remember the apostle Paul says he received 40 stripes save one (-1) 5 different times (2 Corinthians 11:24). That means 5 different Hebrew judges sentenced him to the maximum penalty (40 stripes) but were so fearful of going over that limit that they actually gave him 39 stripes.

Three things to consider about this:

- God likens the outpouring of His wrath on sinners in Judgment Day to stripes (Luke 12:47,48)

- God does not violate His own law. For example, God does not murder. God does not lie. God does not steal. God keeps His own law. Therefore, if God commands earthly judges to establish a certain number (40) in meting out the penalty to evildoers – this means that God Himself must sentence evil doers (mankind) to a limited punishment.

- It is obvious that the teaching of eternal conscious torment in a place called hell –

violates the law and principle set forth in Deuteronomy 25:1-3.

Based on Deuteronomy 25:1-3 we can conclude that God's punishment for the sinner must be limited. It cannot be unlimited.
