200 Million Horseman / 200 Million Horses
Revelation 9:16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
200 million horsemen. And 200 million horses.
Revelation 9:17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
Combining men & horses the total is 400 million.
The Appearance of the Great People & Strong is as the Appearance of Horses
Joel 2:2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
4 The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
The great people and strong who are likened to the appearance of horses are picturing God's elect going forth in the battle of Judgment Day. They are the equivalent picture as the locusts in Revelation chapter 9.
The Shapes of the Locusts were Like unto Horses
Revelation 9:7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
The locusts typify God's elect in the battle of Judgment Day.
Is it Possible for the Great Multitude to be Twice as Many as we Thought?
I think Joel 2:4 & Rev. 9:7 (and Rev. 9:14-17) makes it clear that God does use horses to represent people and specifically, in these verses His elect people.
So, we should ask the question – since there are 200 million horsemen as well as 200 million horses, does this mean that the number of the great multitude could be twice as many as we previously thought?
We've long understood horses represent strength. In Joel 2:2 there's mention of a great people and a STRONG. These great people and strong are the ones likened to the appearance of horses in verse 4.
It should be noted that the same Hebrew word (#6099) translated as "strong" is also found in these verses:
Genesis 18:18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty (#6099) nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
Exodus 1:9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier (#6099) than we:
Isaiah 60:22 A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong (#6099) nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.
Micah 4:7 And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong (#6099) nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.
We can see from these Scriptures that the great and strong (#6099) people are God's elect. And so it is God's elect likened to the appearance of horses.
