Christ's Coming! The End! Day of Resurrection! Comforting Words!

Chris McCann
1 Thessalonians 4:14

The problem many have with having a serious discussion about the end of this world – is that they fear it as much as they fear their own death. And for good reason. They are unsaved people. Which means the world's end brings their end.

But God's elect people (the saved), on the other hand, do not fear Christ's coming in judgment and the end of this world – because God's elect people understand that the end of this world is not their end. But it is a new beginning of an indescribably greater life and existence living in God's presence in new and perfect resurrected bodies in an entirely new and perfect creation. To these few blessed people (out of the whole of mankind), the end of the world ushers in wonderful bliss. The end of the world brings them perfect peace and contentment and joy. The end of the world brings the elect children of God abundance of spiritual blessings which will never have an end.

So, of course, the attitude and way of thinking of the child of God towards this enormous event will be polar opposite of the worldling's attitude and mindset toward it. The people of the world concentrate on the here and now because that is the entirety of their inheritance. They will not live beyond the days of this world. Which is why the world thinks we are crazy for even wanting to contemplate the possibility of its ending.

But God's people do not share their trepidation. Rather we are tremendously comforted by the thought of having all tears wiped away and all sorrow and death being removed forevermore. And of entering into the glorious future that awaits us:

1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
