Christ's Coming Troubled Jerusalem/Church
Matthew 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
After many centuries of giving lip service regarding their desire for the Messiah to com – He finally did come – born of the virgin in the Jubilee year of 7 BC.
And what was the reaction of those who were the people of God in that day? Did they rejoice and proclaim Alleluia! what a Savior! No. They were troubled by the news of His coming.
Likewise the New Testament churches have long (many centuries) been giving lip service of their love for the Lord and their tremendous desire that He come the second time. Of course the second time He came to as Judge. Well, He did come. And His coming was revealed by Scripture and declared by the remnant (elect) of His people. And what was the church's reaction to the news of His coming? Were they glad and shouting loud hosannas? No. They were troubled by the reports.
We can see why God ended His relationship with the nation of Israel and with the New Testament churches. They had no true love for Him in either of His comings. They would have much preferred He not come at all.
