Failure to Understand Indicates a Lack of Wisdom

Ephesians 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

In verse 17 above, it’s clear that to be unwise means to not understand what the will of God is. And to be wise means to understand what the will of God is.

But of what part of God's will in particular is it speaking of?

It would be referring to knowing the will of God concerning any Scripture and doctrine of the Bible. To properly understand it comes with wisdom. And to fail to understand it means one is unwise.

Such as in these Scriptures having to do with the time of the end (our present time period):

Ecclesiastes 8:5 Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.

And,

Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

Some insist that we cannot know matters related to time and judgment. They tell us we cannot know such things as the time line for the Great Tribulation period (May 21, 1988 thru May 21, 2011) or that we cannot know that Judgment Day began on May 21, 2011. Yet, in these matters they are showing themselves to be unwise. A failure to understand or to not know God's judgment is never counted a wise or good thing in the Bible.

Proverbs 28:5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

And,

Jeremiah 8:7 Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.

Also:

Luke 19:42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
