Priscilla and Aquila expounding

Isaiah 531 Peter 3:5

If my wife and I have a believing man over. And we sit in the living room – all 3 of us. And let's say I am engaged in telling him more perfectly about a certain doctrine. And as I speak, my wife reminds me not to forget Isaiah 53 (just for instance). She has contributed to my expounding unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Or, as she listens to the man tell us about the doctrine he lacks understanding of, she might say in the form of a question, yes, but what do you do with this verse?

And since the verse stumps him on his particular doctrine – he begins to understand the way of God more perfectly that I have been explaining to him – along with my wife.

The point is – that a modern generation like ours reads that Aquila and Priscella expounded the way of God more perfectly unto Apollos – and they immediately imagine the wife practically running the show in expounding unto him the Scriptures. We can know that's not how it was at all. The woman would have been very aware of the man's place as the head and one to do the teaching.

1 Peter 3:5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
