Response to an atheist asking for proof

Besides the Bible – which is all sufficient evidence. There is the creation:

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

Literally, everything you have ever experienced in all your days on earth – as been a testimony to you of the God who made it all – including you.

But as I have pointed out, you can't prove anything to the dead. For the very fact that they are dead. The dead know nothing. You understand that on the physical level. You do not expect the physically dead to hear, or see, or know anything. And you correctly recognize it is because they are dead.

It’s the same on the spiritual level. The only complication is that the spiritually dead walk around physically alive for a short time. And due to their physical lives, they suppose themselves to be fully alive.

But what they do not understand (because they are dead) is that they are dead:

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

God warned Adam in the day he ate of the forbidden fruit – he would die?

Did Adam die in the day he disobeyed God and ate the fruit?

He did not die physically. He lived to the age of 930 years.

Any outward observer would think God was wrong. And that Adam did not die. After all, he didn't fall over to the ground. He ate the fruit and kept walking around. For years.

Oh, but inwardly, in his soul, he died:

Ezekiel 18:4 ... the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

The soul is the spirit of man. God is a Spirit. God made man with a living spirit in order to have communion with Himself. The day man died in soul – that connection to God was cut.

Instantaneously the spirit of the man Adam went dark. God is the spiritual light source and sin separates man from God. The world's ugliness and horrible evil is a result of that darkness and is an ongoing testimony to the darkness that has entered into men's souls.

Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

For the few (elect) that God has saved – there is restoration of life to the soul (Psalm 23:3,4) and a reconnection to the power and light source who is God Himself.

Because of the darkness the sinful man lies in – he'll never except any proof (of creation, of the Bible's testimony, or of the law written upon his heart). And the reason is – because he's dead.
