The Free Will Gospel Says God would not give man a Command if he could not obey it – Really? Is that so.
It is commonly said in relationship to the Bible's command to believe on Christ and become saved (Acts 16:31) that God would not give man a command if it were not possible for a man to obey it.
Is that so. What about this command then?
Deuteronomy 10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.
The command in Deuteronomy 10:16 to circumcise the heart is in the same Bible as the Scripture in Acts 16:31. Does that mean God expected people to literally obey His command to circumcise their hearts?
Of course not! If anyone attempted to physically carry it out they would surely die. It is a statement that must be understood spiritually – and that cannot be accomplished by man either physically or spiritually. It is impossible for man to circumcise his own heart just as it is impossible for man to believe and become saved.
Who then could believe and become saved or who then could receive a circumcised heart? Those whom God determined to save and gave them a heart to believe and those whom God performed spiritual circumcision upon:
Deuteronomy 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
