Update on Jonah 4:1

Here is the correct way of understanding this word in Jonah 4:1.

The Hebrew word has a vau prefix attached to the word which is why it says "But it..."

Strong's Concordance gives the numbers for the word translated as "displeased" in Jonah 4:1 as #7489 and #5869. This is incorrect. To make matters worse, Jay Green's Interlinear also incorrectly gives the Strong’snumber of #5869 and the incorrect translation of the word as "eye". The word does not mean “eye.”

The actual Hebrew word is Strong's #3415. This can be checked by looking into Strong's Concordance and looking at the Englishman's Hebrew Concordance where the verse of Jonah 4:1 is found with the translation of "displeased". Strong’s #3415 can be translated as “evil” (Deuteronomy 28:54,56) or as “grievous” (Genesis 21:11,12) or as displeased (2 Sam. 11:25,27). When you look at the Hebrew word yarag (#3415) the consonants match what we see in Jonah 4:1.

The KJV translators were correct to translate the beginning of the verse: "But it displeased", however, it would also be correct to translate the word as "evil" or "grievous". Here's how we can properly translate it:

"But it was grievous to Jonah for a great evil was kindled to him."
