Contentment

Chris McCann
1 Timothy 6:6-81 Timothy 6:82 Corinthians 12:9

1 Timothy 6:6-8: But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

The Greek word translated as ‘content’ in 1 Timothy 6:8 is also translated as ‘sufficient’ in this verse:

2 Corinthians 12:9 And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:

My grace is contentment for thee. God’s elect, after salvation, will find themselves most of all content with God’s salvation program.

Content with the teachings, the doctrines of the Word of God, the Holy Bible. Content with the idea that salvation is 100% of the Lord and not of themselves in any way.

Those that have not truly become born again will NOT find this type of contentment. They will not be content with the manna's plainness. Nor will they be content with the Bible's teachings of genuine grace coming from God to underserving sinners incapable of doing any work to justify themselves.

So, they will devise other gospels, more exciting gospels like speaking in tongues, or falling over backwards. Or more work oriented gospels like accepting Christ. Or walking down an aisle to get saved. Or doing some other "good works" to contribute to salvation.

But again, those people content with food (the true teaching of the Holy Bible) and raiment (the true covering of Christ’s righteousness) are the ones that have found great gain.
