Two Thirds (666) Represent the Unsaved Under Satan's Power

The Bible identifies God's elect with the figure of one-third (Zechariah 13:8,9). Because the elect were found within the churches, God gave them the designation of one-third as well. Which is why when we read Revelation 8's description of wrath falling on the third part, we understand it is referring to the churches as judgment began at the house of God (1 Peter 4:17):

Revelation 8:9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.

10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;

11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

The churches (third part) gospel waters were made bitter (no ability to save any within the congregations).

Interestingly, God utilized Satan and his kingdom, which is typified by the kingdom of Babylon to give the cup of wrath to those within the churches. And then God tells us of His plan to give Babylon a double portion of the cup of wrath:

Revelation 18:6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

In other words, God judged the third part (churches) by giving them the cup of wrath. And afterward, God judges the world (Babylon) by giving them double the third part or double one third. What is double one third? Double one third is two thirds.

If you were to write two thirds as a decimal, it would be:

0.666

The 6 continues to repeat. Remove the 0 and you have .666

The Bible makes reference to 666 in:

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Literally, this verse reads: "...it is the number of man" (not "a" man).

Man's number is 666. Or two thirds. And we can understand it to mean natural or unsaved man because it is referring to those men who identify with the number of the beast. The number of the beast is the number of unsaved mankind.

This figure is not to be understood literally. The unsaved people of the world are many more than two-thirds of the population. But two thirds is a designation used by God to represent those under Satan's (the beast) authority.

Zechariah 13:8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried:

2/3 cut off and die. 1/3 live and are refined by the fire.

2 Samuel 8:2 And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts.

David (type of Christ) used two lines (2/3) to put to death (to perish); and one line (1/3) to keep alive (to save).

Also,

2 Kings 1:13 And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.

14 Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight.

2 captains and their fifties (51 + 51) = 2/3 are burned up. 1 captain and his fifty (51) = 1/3 who live.

You can see why I mentioned that the third part (1/3) in Revelation chapter 8 identified with those in the churches. The church is where those who claim to be saved (claim to be the third part) are found. Once you do a thorough study on the third part being delivered again and again in the Bible, and then read Revelation 8's language of judgment on the third part – it is stunning. What is happening? Why is God judging His people? And of course, we know the answer is that God has long planned to begin the judgment process starting with those called by His name.
