Jair Judged Israel 22 years

Judges 10:1 And after Abimelech there arose to defend Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in mount Ephraim.

2 And he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.

3 And after him arose Jair, a Gileadite, and judged Israel twenty and two years.

4 And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havothjair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.

5 And Jair died, and was buried in Camon.

I was reading an old book by Mr. Camping called Are You Ready? It was published around 1994. In that book Mr. Camping pointed out that Tola’s 23-year rule as judge was a type and figure of the Great Tribulation period (a time period we do know was exactly 23 years: from May 21, 1988 through May 21, 2011). Mr. Camping wrote this about the next judge Jair:

“Tola judged Israel for 23 years. When he died in 1181 BC, Jair began to judge. Jair judged for 22 years and had 30 sons who rode on 30 ass colts and had 30 cities (Judges 10:1-4). The end of the 23 years points to the end of the final tribulation period when Christ comes. Jair, therefore, is a picture of Christ as He comes at the end of the world. His 30 sons (3 x 10) represent the purpose (3) of God that the complete number of the sons of God will be saved. Riding on a colt and having a city in each case points to the complete (10) purpose (3) of God, which will be realized as all believers reign with Him forevermore.” (excerpt from: Are you Ready? p. 284).

What’s interesting about this judge’s period of rule, is that following the 23 years (Great Tribulation) he rules for 22 years with his thirty sons. The judge ruling with his 30 sons for 22 years relates to the idea of Christ coming as Judge of the world along with 10,000 (completeness) of His saints. Also, it’s interesting that if we go 22 years from May 21, 2011 (the date the 23 Great Tribulation concluded) it brings us to 2033 AD.

The name ‘Jair’ (Hebrew #2971) is derived from the Hebrew word for ‘light’ or ‘enlighten’ (#215). Of course since Jesus is the Light of the world, Jair’s name would tie in with him being a type and figure of Christ.

One last thing: combining Tola’s 23 year rule with Jair’s 22 years gives us 45 total years.

Christ’s first coming: the Bible indicates that Christ would come after 11,000 years of history.

13 BC to 33 AD = 45 actual years (minus 1 due to lack of year zero)

And,

From start of Great Tribulation: 1988 to a possible date for world’s end--2033 =

2033 - 1988 = 45 years

The 45 years is the same length of time as the period of Tola and Jair.
