No More Chance of Man's Belief Saving Him Than There is of the Devils' Belief Saving Them

James 2:19

In the epistle of James, chapter 2, we read this important statement:

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

In this verse, the Lord first mentions those who believe in one God. And then makes a comparison between their belief and the belief of devils. Why is God bringing up the belief of devils? Because He is making the point that the devil's belief in God – does nothing at all for them regarding their spiritual condition. That is, the devil's believe there is a God but remain unsaved and under the wrath of God. Their belief, in other words, does not save them. And that's the point God is making concerning those who "believe" in God. Fine. You should because it is true there is one God. However, do not think that such belief coming from you will save you in any way from the wrath of God. There is no more chance of man's belief saving him than there is of the devil's belief saving them.
