Jesus Presently Reigns over the Earth as King of Destruction!

By Chris McCann

The Bible teaches us that the Lord Jesus Christ has taken the kingdom of Satan (beginning on May 21, 2011), which are the kingdoms of this world, and now rules the earth over the course of a Prolonged Judgment Day Period.

Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

The preposition translated as "for" can be understood to mean "to" or "into". Thus, Christ shall reign on the earth TO the point of eternity (ever and ever).

Which agrees with these verses:

1 Corinthians 15:23 ... at his coming.

24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

The above Scriptures reveal an incredible truth. It is telling us that at Jesus' 2nd coming, He will deliver up the kingdom (that is,  save all who were to be saved) and put down the rule of Satan and all of his power and authority--and then take the throne of the earth Himself to reign for a time--up until the point that death itself is destroyed (the last day).

The incredible thing is, that the passage is declaring a limited earthly reign of Christ that begins at His second coming and with the judgment on the world and continues only until the world is destroyed (which is the time when death is destroyed).

Therefore, the earthly reign of Christ occurs simultaneously with His being seated upon the judgment THRONE. The Bible calls this period of time, the "time of the dead":

Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

We also see that the focus of Christ's earthly reign during the "time of the dead" is to "destroy them which destroy the earth". That is, He is not reigning for the good, or the welfare of His subjects, but rather, He is reigning in order to bring destruction to them. Which agrees with this verse:

Revelation 9:10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.

11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

We have long understood that Revelation chapter 9 is a chapter describing the final judgment of this world. We have also known that the locusts whose power was to hurt men five months were a type and figure of God's elect. But now, we can see that the King over the locusts is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. The ruling King of the earth throughout the prolonged (five months) judgment Day period of time. The King's name is "Abaddon" in the Hebrew. And "Apollyon" in the Greek. Both the Hebrew and Greek words mean to destroy, or to bring destruction. Only God has the power to destroy. Satan possesses no such power. Only God, the Lord Jesus Christ therefore is Apollyon! Only He has the name of Abaddon! Because it is the time for Him to destroy the unsaved people of the earth:

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Satan cannot destroy a man's soul and body in hell (grave). Only the Lord Jesus Christ can do that. The reigning King of the earth has the name of Abaddon, and Apollyon. He is the King of destruction. And as such, He rules the nations of the world with a rod of iron:

Revelation 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

We find further commentary on Christ ruling with a rod of iron in this psalm:

Psalm 2:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

The rod of iron is used as a destroying weapon. Its purpose is to destroy (dash in pieces) the nations (the heathen) of the world.
