Bible Study is Studying and Waiting, Studying and Waiting

There are NO contradictions in God's Holy Word the Bible (all 66 books). There are apparent contradictions-which, through study and God opening up our eyes we are always able to explain and then see the glory of God in even greater detail. But, there are some rebellious men, who come to the Bible and find an apparent contradiction-and say, "The Bible is wrong!" Or, "This book doesn't belong in the Bible!". These men make these statement because they are careless, perhaps even lazy in the way they approach God's holy Word. The truth of the Bible is to be dug out as though looking for buried treasure of silver and gold. Many, however, just look on the surface of the Scripture (where there are apparent contradictions) and then immediately come to their (wrong) conclusion. They haven't found anything out about the Bible at all. Actually, the Bible has found them out-and found them wanting.

Whenever we read what appears to be a contradiction in the Bible, all it means is that we have a lot more diligent study to do:

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We are to study until the Scriptures, through the process of comparing spiritual with spiritual, resolves the contradicting passages. We have not found truth until the apparent contradiction is resolved. Often times God opens up the eyes of His elect to see the truth-thus resolving the matter and proving no contradiction actually existed. Yet, sometimes the verses are not satisfactorily resolved. So we continue to study, or even leave it for a time, coming back to it later. In other words, we are humble regarding the matter. "O Father, I don't understand this verse and how it can possibly agree with this other verse, help me to see it Lord, nevertheless, your will be done." Then, we study and wait on the Lord. Study and wait. This is the spiritual life of God's elect as we humbly approach His Holy Word the Bible.
